Two Guest Entries

I've been looking at all the gorgeous women with skin-tight, high-heel, over-the-knee boots this year and realizing I'm not edgy or sophisticated enough to get away with it. I want to blame age -- but as my girlfriend Laura attested, many wearers of said boots are older women who are still rockin' it. Oh well.

Given our climate, Laura recommend these rechargeable, heated boots from Columbia Sportswear for me instead. S-E-X-Y.

Practical. Very practical. My mother would be proud. And they'll come in handy when I'm playing driveway hockey, going sledding or tracking Yeti.

*******

On an unrelated topic, the newest entry to the blog roll on the left side of the screen is A.S.S. This link comes from my brother Kevin and features many unsavory acronyms. This should keep us entertained.

I'm thinking our old student newspaper at the University of Rochester's William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, The World According to Simon, would have been prominently featured on this site.

Elegance and Rebellion

My girlfriend Kim is getting married in ten days. Cannot wait!

In the process of shopping for dresses -- wedding, rehearsal dinner, dancing, whatever -- she came across some gorgeous dresses from Nicole Miller. While Kim's taste runs much wilder than mine (she's younger and more hippie chick), I really like the professional dresses on the Nicole Miller site.

What's more, I appreciate the fact that her marketing team accurately captured the subtle nuance of her style.

Nicole Miller uniquely combines the ideas of elegance and rebellion
to achieve a subtle sexiness that is the essence of modern femininity.

In this world where everything seems to be shifting to ubiquitous mall store fashion (which can be a blessing in a city like ours where style is not a top priority), it's refreshing to see elegance that works.

Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful

The other day, as I was leaving for work, my husband commented on my fairly new (within the last year at least) BCBG dress.

Hubby: "You wearing that?"
Me: "Why, is it bad?"
Hubby: "Not if you're traveling through a time warp to 1986."
Me: "I don't have time to change."
Hubby: "Well, you can probably pull it off."
Me: "I don't want to 'pull it off'; I want to look good."
Hubby: "There's always tomorrow."

The bad news: everything else in my closet is worse.
The good news: I just got a raise! Mama needs some new clothes . . .
