Orr Not . . .

My coworker/friend Jennifer gave me the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Trivia Challenge calendar a few weeks ago. It's a short, daily challenge that we rarely get right.

Case in point -- today.

Me: Sandra Dee received a divorce from what Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 1967?

Jenn: Bobby Orr?

Me: Bobby Orr?? No, Bobby Darin.

Jenn: Bobby Darin was a hockey player?

It's been confirmed: I'm not the only one having a long week.

Wolfgang Puck

While playing hockey in the driveway yesterday, Son #2 flipped the puck in the air, raised his stick and quickly maneuvered so the puck landed perfectly on the outstretched, horizontal stick.

Then, without skipping a beat, he deadpanned, "Did somebody order a pizza?"

Spring Fever

A couple of weeks ago, Stuff White People Like posted about how "white people believe that they can bring spring early by wearing a pair of shorts on any day that is above seasonal temperatures." That's how I felt this past weekend.

After spending a short (but fun) day poolside at a Courtyard by Marriott in Albany with some awesome friends and their kids, we drove back to the Roch to spend Easter at home. On Sunday, the kids woke up at 4:20 a.m., I coerced them back into bed for two more hours, and then they speed-hunted for eggs which lasted approximately one minute. Such buildup for this?

That left us with a day full of sunshine and, finally, a snow-free driveway on which to play street hockey, catch and basketball -- while retrieving the pucks/balls from the melting snowbanks. We then went around the block on scooters and further along through the neighborhood on bikes. Fresh air at last.

Today it's back to gray skies and snow. But, for a brief moment, it felt like spring.

What a great weekend.

Go Amerks!

The hubby and I took the kids to a Rochester Americans game last night thanks to some free tickets courtesy of our public library. I hadn't been to a game since the early 80s. Even though it was the week of February break (and both Family Night and College Night), I guess with a 16-33 record it shouldn't have been surprising to find the arena less than half full! More room to stretch.

But, I have to say, it was a hoot. They gave out light-up maracas and had all of the customary games/music/Moose mascots for the kids to enjoy. But, most importantly, after playing poorly during the first two periods, the Amerks came out for the final period in rare form. It became a fast-paced game with a number of just-missed attempts that kept me on the edge of my seat. Given that I could barely keep my eyes open before the game began, that was no easy feat.

The best part: The Amerks won in overtime. Sudden death is fun!

I do have two questions however:
  1. What were they thinking when they named the opposing team the "Albany River Rats"?
  2. Why are 99.9% of the spectators white?
Any answers?
