My girlfriend Sarah had all of us guessing what color she was planning to paint her "great room." (It gets pretty exciting 'round here.) The answer: green sprout.
Me: I won!
Kim: No you didn't, I won.
Me: I said green.
Kim: Yeah, and I said beige.
Me: What part of green sprout sounds beige to you?
Kim: Oh, I thought she said she was painting her room grease brown.
I think it's high time to go back to the Pantone color chart. When it sounds perfectly acceptable to paint your room in a color that typifies the McDonald's waste stream and no one bats an eye, we may have gone too far.
I blame J. Crew.
"Love that shirt! What color is it, warm shell?"
"No, it's flamingo. I had a hard time deciding between it and the desert sky but flamingo goes with everything."

Numskull
I read on A Cup of Joe last week that antlers were so 2004 and "officially over" (really?) which may explain why I found this cow skull at a garage sale last weekend. Good thing I'm no longer living in Manhattan; I'm now at the tail end of a dying trend even in a non-trendy town. Yikes!

Yeah, it's a little too Georgia O'Keefe super-size-me but whatever. One man's trash is another man's treasure?
Which brings me to a somewhat unrelated topic: I am so blinkin' sick of that depressing red color on my living room walls. I was thinking of going neutral (white or a light coffee) but then saw a vibrant, bright green color saturating the walls of Scout & Molly's, a sweet little shop in Greensboro, and I've been thinking about it ever since. Unfortunately, their website doesn't do it justice.
This color in this chair from Le Tramac (found on the gorgeous site All Things Bright and Beautiful) is more like it. I'm looking for sunny and fresh not pea-colored. Perhaps a bit preppy -- hearkening back to my childhood of pink/green monogrammed sweaters and whale belts.

Love it!

Why Wait?
My mom, although in perfect health, wanted her DNR (do not resuscitate) notarized and filed with her lawyer. My brother told her it wasn't necessary; we were all planning to smother her with a pillow regardless.
In preparation, maybe we should pitch in for this beautiful piece from Coffin Couches. Mother's Day is right around the corner after all and it would actually complement Grannie Annie's funky home decor.

On a side note: Isn't it interesting that used coffins cannot be resold (by law) for dead bodies due to health and safety issues; however, they can be recycled and re-purposed for the living?
Methinks that if I owned Coffin Couches -- which would be fabulous! -- I would focus on some more interesting "body" copy on the home page (given that the products have so much character they're just screaming for some left-of-center marketing support) and relegate the biohazardous text to a secondary page. Otherwise, it's a bit off-putting!

My New Favorite Blog?
Okay, so I’m sure I’ll continue to hit Go Fug Yourself daily – and not because I am into fashion but because I love how hysterically well these women write; however, I found another fabulous blog with gorgeous design ideas: Desire to Inspire.
Two days ago, they added a post plainly entitled "Simply some pretty photos. . ." that actually did inspire me. Just because I live in a 1960's tract house and have barely a penny to my name doesn't mean I have to give up. But I pretty much have done just that over the past five years.
Their collage of zebra rugs have made me want to go out and find one! I want to paint! I want beautiful fabrics!
To quote the Foo Fighters, "This is a call to all my past resignations. It's been too long."
