Babble On

In my Bible study this morning, I was reading Luke 24 where the women who followed Jesus went to the tomb, found it empty and were reminded by "two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning" that, per his words, Jesus had risen.

Then the women came back and told all the guys what had happened . . .

"But they did not believe the women,
because their words seemed to them like nonsense."

The more things change, the more they stay the same!

I'm a Brainiac, Brainiac

According to an article published in The Financial Times last Friday, “Mindless gossip feeds the brain.” Specifically, researchers have discovered that:

  • memory and mental performance improve during a few minutes' conversation with another person
  • rambling on about a soap opera seems to be as effective as a weighty conversation about social issues
  • socializing is as effective in sharpening your faculties as doing a crossword

Off to the water cooler I go! Really, it's all in the line of duty.

Oh, you know her, would you look at that hair? Yeah, you know her, check out those shoes . . .

Trial Run

My girlfriend just called to tell me that she has officially fallen in love with the guy she's dating. I joked, "don't you think you should be telling him this (vs. me)?" She laughingly said that I was her "trial run" to ensure she got it right. Some things are scary to say out loud for the first time.

When my husband and I were dating for almost seven years, one of his friends asked him when we were going to get married. "Never" was his response. So his friend told his wife who, in turn, told her sister who, in turn, told other girlfriends, and so on. Typical small town.

After we got engaged, I found out about this gossip chain (i.e., friends who were sincerely worried that I was being set-up for disappointment) and I asked him, "why, if you had already purchased the ring, did you tell Bill that you weren't planning to marry me?"

"I thought you should be the first to know."
